Tag, after losing several family members to an android rebellion, has come to trust the AI Dyson Ashteo. Tag is also reunited with his lover, Lira Reen a Blue Kitt operative and infamous cat burglar, who now uses her skills to aid in the fight against the Naplian invaders. Meanwhile, Elden leads his Truppen, a mechanical race containing the souls of volunteers harvested from their bodies to create the ultimate soldiers. The longer this war goes on, the more Elden believes that a sinister force is secretly building an army that will seek to crush all biological life.
The fast-paced sequel to Empire's Rift and Strife’s Cost, Steve Rzasa's third novel in the Takamo Universe, is a great addition to the series. The characters from Empire's Rift and Strife’s Cost are now fully involved in the expanding war against the Naplians, and the Truppen cybers, under the command of Elden Selva, are following their own violent path as they make a daring attempt to take back the Baedecker Starsystem. The novel is filled with Easter eggs and links to other Takamo stories and bits about the Five Galaxies that are the hallmark of the rich Takamo Universe backstory.
